I demoed the Digital Music Doctor's stuff and found them very good. Now that I've upgraded to Sonar 5 I would consider them again, as long as they are accurate.
Personally I enjoy the female voice. It's very neutral sounding. It almost sounds as if she is the Sonar expert, although she may be a professional voice-over person. By contrast, when I just played the first demo of the VTC, it sounded like this Ludwig guy was on heavy narcotics or something.
Is he for real? If both are accurate, then it's just a style preference. How about if we could be clear about that - style versus content. I think it would be much more helpful to other interested parties, of which I will guess there are many.
This is not an easy program to figure out on your own! Rick makes an excellent point-style versus content. I suppose it depends on your level of expertise - - I learned something from all of them.
But I agree with Rick in that listening to the VTC guy just about put me to sleep, whereas with DMD and particularly the CSi Master series the instructors enthusiasm comes across and makes me want to listen.
Style differences? It's like attending a weeklong seminar with the a boring instructor versus a single afternoon with an excellent one. Depends on what you are looking for and how much you want to spend I just downloaded the DigitalMusicDoctor Sonar 4 tutorial yesterday. I have watched most of it already. My biggest 'complaint' more of a comment actually is that they do move pretty fast through the material--shoot, if you look away for the screen for 2 seconds, she might be on to another topic altogether!
However you can easily rewind the player and watch it as many times as you want. But in all fairness, just to be able to watch an experienced user employ the software to perform tasks is a significant value--at the very least you start to get a feel for what you don't know.
Until recently I didn't know what I didn't know But they are incredibly throrough. I bought one for the C programming language and it is excellent. I wonder if they ever discount videos on old products? I mean, in the end does it matter all that much if they are dry? While it's not an optimal delivery system, the information is presented to you nonetheless and you just have to put in your time and get through it. It certainly beats struggling through it yourself.
