Along with a couple of gung-ho marines and using a variety of scientific minds, you have to research the items you find throughout the levels to find a way to defeat the enemy. It's 'samey' without being too boring, and surprisingly it pulls off the difficult trick of creating something quite sinister - not scary, but certainly atmospheric.
The graphics and AI are run-of-the-mill, but the speech spoils the show. However, with droids, scientists, marines and unconscious bodies to drag around, it should keep a few of you interested until the next X-COM or until The Gollops create their next sci-fi classic. But that could be quite a while.
Put it this way: Enemy Infestation is a tactical two-penny chew that those keen to avoid budgeting and resource allocation could sink their teeth into immediately. You lead your troops around discovering the map, killing enemies and completing tasks. What makes this game unique from other games of its genre is its weapons system. When you begin a mission, the effect of the weapons you will find is unknown. You have to experiment with the weapons you find to see what effect they have on the aliens.
The effects can be beneficial, such as shrink, kill, freeze, or detrimental: multiply, grow, attract. These effects change each time you play, so a gun that may have been useful for killing aliens in the last mission may cause them to multiply in the next mission. Its is not all trial and error though, as there are a few weapons with consistent effects. Some of the missions even allow you to research and modify a weapon to become more useful to you.
Unfortunately, there are only five maps over which the missions take place. Later missions just re-use the same map, with different object placement and different locked doors. But the designers have done a good job of making sure each mission plays differently from other missions using the same map. The graphics are quite nice. The five maps are all drawn with good detail and the aliens are somewhat convincing.
The only gripes I have are that the colonists all look too similar and that certain objects can be hard to find as they blend in with the background. The voice acting ranges from good to corny I personally find the mission narrator rather irritating. There isn't much music, but what is there is appropriate.
A more interesting story and cast would have made this game a winner. The plot, as already mentioned is quite generic and there are no real sunrises to keep it interesting.
Characters in the game are too stereotypical and boring. There are also a few plot holes in the game, for example, in one mission your task is to capture a traitor, but in the next mission, the traitor is a good guy again! Overall, Enemy Infestation is a fun game. There is even a multi-player option, with 10 multiplayer specific maps or you can play the single player missions co-operatively. Kosmoborsh 0 point.

If there is an item you wish to have on GOG. Game has an additional compaign "Army of darkness". I found information many years ago. And you can open game site from WebArchieve. I remember this game. Only ever had a demo from pc gamer cd. I wish we had a good version for modern systems. What a shame that there were no continuation. I miss it so much, please guys arrange something, dont let the developer word in vain.
This game is available on myabandonware. I found it while searching for a way to have it on my imac, done it with porting kit. I played this so much as a child and it would be a complete joy to play it again. There is such a unique feeling when playing a game the brings back memories of joy as a child. Me and a couple of friends decided to remake this masterpiece on hour free time.
I will post here again once we have some news! And I am NOT exaggerating at all! This would definitely be a must buy for me, as well. Very unique and enjoyable game. Totaly in, especially after reading that message below from developer! Fantastic top down RTS which was hugely under rated. I'd think the publisher would be very interested in launching on GoG. I used to play this game over and over when I was a child.
Would love to be able to relive those fun times. Please get it on GOG! Woah, guys, the game's producer just popped on to tell us he'd be down with putting the game up here. Come on, crowdsource or something and make it happen!! Well that would be the one I would really like to see it here optimized for newer systems! I would love to buy this game and to have it running on windows Thank you in advance!
This is one of my favorite games of all time. If it showed up on GOG, I'd definitely buy it right away. I've been thinking about how cool it would be to remake this game just this year.
I have always had a soft spot in my heart for this game. I have a CD of the original but I cannot get it to run past the minute mark. Hello All. I ran into these comments and thought I would add to the discussion. So a bit about EI. If the community is interested, I may be able to find source and other files for Enemy Infestation and perhaps it could be updated in some way. The project allowed the first aid.
The profits made from this game were used to setup the not for profit AIE school that has helped thousands of graduates have a go and get a job in the games or related industries. If there is interest by a quality group of coders and artists to update the game, I am happy to assist in bringing it up to some sort of spec.
I don't frequent GOG boards and only ran into this thread by accident. If this is to come about, it needs a committed, talented group of people to come together on a part-time basis that want to make something of this opportunity.
Maybe a German version can be developed? Anyhow, its great that this game touched a bunch of people and that you enjoyed it. It was such a long time ago and its great to go back onto our early success games. It was not a huge seller but it did ok.
We had a lot of fun making it, and it was the first game that came out of Canberra, Australia. It led to 2K establishing a studio there and many great games coming out of them. All this would not have happened if you had not bought this game so long ago Thank you for the career it has given me.
