Debian install hangs

I'm trying to net-install Debian testing Jessie on a laptop but I always get stuck during the network hardware detection. Specifically, the last line I read in the syslog is that the firmware for the wlan chip bcm43xx I tried to flash the USB drive with both usb-creator-gtk and dd obtaining the same results.

In these last two installers I see that the firmware bcm43xx Would that work? How should I do that? Do not select the conflicting harder for network setup, and you are good to go for now! Some related info for future readers of this thread; this does not offer a direct resolution to the problem posted but might offer another work-around if the problem persists like it did with me:.

Asked 7 years, 8 months ago. Fundamentally, the Debian installer will not "find a volume group" is the hard drive is already formatted and used. This is very poor behavior. After this the installer worked. I hope this helps someone else havign this problem. May the FORK be with you! I have repartitioned and installed both a standard desktop install and an expert install over an existing system, to disks previously partitioned with GParted for the new install and also on a blank disk. Never a problem. I select simple "Install" and choose language and location. Then there is a short flashing message such as "Detecting Hardware I can switch to the shell using Alt-F4.

Re: Debian Installer hangs with blue screen on MacBook Pro Post by hhrutz » I try to remember how we "solved" it in the end I think we used the modified package that contains the firmware from lwfinger directly, copied that to a USB stick, and ran dpckg from there.

At some point the ethernet was working, but the system kept freezing randomly Network Manager crashed, and ntpd.
